Sadly, our major fund raiser of the year has been postponed...but don't despair! It's not cancelled, we're just getting it spot on and changing the venue. Watch this space for further details.ENORMOUS THANKS GO TO PAUL BURRIDGE AT FINE FAYRE FOODS FOR WORKING SO HARD TO TRY AND MAKE THIS THE SUCCESS IT WILL BE NEXT YEAR.

We can't believe it is the end of the first term already! We have been busy learning, achieveing and playing.

Last term while our volunteer Benno was at school his mum Jana visited too. She is a teacher in Germany and had been teaching her students about Africa and Kenya. They enjoyed learning about the different traditions, including wearing the ‘kanga’ a traditional colourful cloth worn by most Kenyan women. The Kanga is very versatile and is worn as a skirt or shawl, used to carry babies and shopping on women’s backs and also doubles up as a towel! Even the boys wore them too!!The children were so interested in Kenya and Future Hope that they made enough cakes to sell and sign up to have class pen pals for the year! We thank many of our pen pals for their patience as their Christmas parcels slowly made it to Vipingo and arrived in March!!Our children did not mind and were as excited as ever to get their mail. Do your children go to a school that would like to become part of our pen pal scheme? We have several and all find it a rewarding experience, with the older children even coming out to us on their gap years when they leave school. Let us know and we can arrange for someone to visit your school in the UK.

The Head Teacher Issa and Educational Project Manager Sian enjoyed a visit to Braeburn School in Mombasa http://www.mombasa.braeburn.com/  where deputy Ruth kindly showed them around. The visit was very inspiring and gave them lots of ideas for development at Future Hope. Braeburn are kindly donating their old textbooks as resources and will be welcoming our Early Years teachers next term for a series of work days. Our teachers will shadow the teachers at Braeburn to gain further experience, ideas and professional development. We look forward to welcoming pupils from Braeburn to Vipingo next term and exploring this new relationship between the schools.

Part of the Vipingo Village Fund family is the Kanga Kikoy Kompany sewing cooperative. They make wonderful, vibrant items from the traditional Kanga and Kikoy fabrics. Table mats, baby bags and kitchen ware are some of the fabulous items which make great gifts. This year they are launching a new children's range of Ra-Ra skirts, patchwork shorts and trousers. You will find our stall at the Hanwell Carnival on 18th June 2016 which promises to be a fun day our for all the family. The KK Kompany is our window of opportunity to meet the public and share with them the vital work the Vipingo Village Fund carries out. For more details email tim@vipingovillagefund.org. We sell at craft fairs in both Kenya and the UK and it was through a craft fair at Vipingo Ridge that Carol and Tim met Head of Braeburn school which has generated new supporters to join the VVF family.

Special Thanks to....

Ant and Penny Denton for their support at school during the first term. Penny worked with our lower primary and nursery teachers to help them develop their teaching skills. The teachers responded well to this professional development and say a big thanks and 'we will miss you' to Penny; both accepted the challenging role of becoming Trustees. Penny sitting on the Kenyan board and Ants on the Uk board, their UK teaching skills are invaluable.

The Vipingo Village Fund is delighted to welcome a very generous new donor who has pledged to help fund the teachers’ salaries and wants to form a long-term relationship with the charity.

Vipingo e.V. for an amazing fund raising event in Ostrach, Germany in mid-March. They created a highly successful benefit concert with headliner Marcus and all the other groups giving their time for free; as did the waitresses, the sound and lighting guys, the bar staff, the cake bakers, the chair stackers and the table clearers! It was an outstanding event and the networking opportunities were invaluable.

Paul Davies, Head of Admissions at the Aga Khan Academy, for taking the time to show Carol and Tim around the school and for assessing two of our students for the pre-entry exam.

Dunsford Primary School in Devon for their continued support through Carol’s two great-nieces Hannah and Melissa. Every year they arrange a fund-raising event for VVF . This year it enabled us to buy books, soap and toothpaste, football boots and skipping ropes. Well done everyone at Dunsford www.dunsford.devon.sch.uk. Carol very much enjoyed seeing you all.

Fleur van den Driest for donating toys and books and to her parents Peter and Janneka van den Driest who collected yoghurt pots which we are using for drinking water at lunch time.

Chris Copson for her knitting bunny bonanza!! She has made and sold so many lovely bunnies through just giving https://www.justgiving.com/vipingo

To all our penpals, Standing Order donors who keep supporting us month after month...a million thanks

....and to everyone who has made Future Hope a reality.
